Blog 9: Feature Plan
Feature Plan
Hey everyone! Today I'm going to lay out all the parts to for my main feature stories. A feature plan is mapping out exactly what you want in your story, without missing any details. There are two steps: 1) listing the possible topics for your feature and narrowing it down to one. 2) Finding sources to use to include in your feature, for topics people may not have the knowledge in.
Step 1:
List of Possible Topics:
- Birthday Outfits
- Nieces Baptism Outfits
- Wedding SZN
- Choosing the Right Outfit
- Easter Outfit Planning
Topic/Idea Selected:
- Birthday Outfits
Why:
I chose Birthday Outfits as my topic because for my birthday, I wore multiple outfits that were my traditional clothes and I can go into depth about each outfit and pieces of them as well.
List things your audience already knows about your topic:
My audience will already know that most teenagers go above and beyond for their birthday, so they'll expect something big. Also, there is an "s" at the end of outfit so, they can imply there is going to be an outfit change.
List what your audience needs to know about your topic:
They will need to know a few terms that are used, like the name of the outfit, as well as the correct terminology for the accessories. They will also need to know the process of what I did on my birthday and how long the event was.
Focusing on what your audience needs to know, what is the focused purpose of your feature article:
The focused purpose of my feature article is to educate people of other cultures and show what we do. I also want to give people that I share the same culture with to maybe get an idea of what to wear for their next birthday or for their parents to help them choose something remotely similar.
Step 2:
Purpose Statement:
As a writer and first hand witness, I am writing a feature article about My birthday outfits to my mass audience because I want the world to learn and educate themselves on cultural clothes that people wear, as well as help people of my culture get ideas on how to style their next outfit.
